What is Mathematics? Summation, subtraction, division — or does such a symphony of numbers and symbols weave together intricate patterns, uncovering the secrets of our universe? Mathematics transcends mere calculations and equations: as Albert Einstein once remarked, ‘Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas’. It is the language through which we comprehend the fundamental laws that govern our world.
In the recent Annual International Mathematical Modelling Challenge, our students have showcased their exceptional problem-solving acumen and critical thinking in the art of mathematical modeling through identifying the key variables, relationships, and underlying patterns within various complex systems.
We are more than proud to announce that AU Issac (5A), KWAN Hera (5A), WONG Desmond (5A) and TSOI Kwan Hung (5C) have pushed beyond boundaries and entered the Regional Contest of Greater China and even the International Contest of Greater China to vie for top honours alongside some of the brightest mathematical minds in the field. Emerging as one of the Finalists of the latter competition mode, they have ultimately bagged the prestigious Meritorious Award for their outstanding performance.
Another brilliant team, which consists of HUEN Wai Tak (5A), MAK Ho Hin (5A), WONG Kwan Wo (5A) and YAU Chun Hin (5A), has been awarded the Honourable Mention for their remarkable performance. Congratulations!
Our junior mathematical prodigies also made a triumphant breakthrough in the Regional Contest of Greater China. HA Ying Fei Ethan (2A), HUANG Jiale (2C), TSANG Yin Cheung Cyrus (3B) and LUNG Wing Chung (3B) were declared Finalist while WU Xian Ru (2A), HUNG Hei Chit (2B), ZHOU Tian Qi (3B) and WONG Cheuk Kiu (3B) received the Honourable Mention.
St. Markans never fail to surprise us with wit and grit. Keep reaching for the stars!
