Alumni News: 實戰經驗助醫科生邁向「醫學科學家」目標

Cancer. Its name echoes through the corridors of hospitals and the hearts of millions with an unbearable weight that seems to transcend mere syllables. For decades, cancer has been synonymous with suffering, uncertainty, and loss — a formidable foe that has defied our best efforts at every turn.

Nonetheless, amidst the backdrop of daunting statistics and heartbreaking prognoses, a group of resourceful and intrepid medical pioneers from the Department of Anatomical and Cellular Pathology in CU Medicine, including our esteemed alumnus, CHAN Wai Nok, Brain, who achieved perfect scores in the HKDSE 2019 and is currently a year 5 student in the Global Physician-Leadership (GPS) stream, has developed a unified molecular classification of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) on a pan-cancer scale, a breakthrough that promises to enhance the understanding of cancer progression and treatment.

Their stellar achievement reminds us of the indomitable spirit of human innovation and perseverance. Kudos to Brian’s tireless dedication to the advancement of medical technology and the welfare of humanity.
